Heroworship: A Graphic Tale of Epic Proportions August 6 - September 18. 2010

Frank Strunk III

My father and I were having a conversation about the direction of a man’s life. He made the comparison between a ship traveling on a long voyage. The captain sets the auto-pilot and the ship goes along its way. The ship doesn’t hold a true line the entire trip; it veers off course and readjusts. Over and over again the ship reassumes its course after being drawn away. High winds or contrary currents can influence the ship, but as long as the path is known, there is a place to return to. If the auto-pilot can’t adjust to the conditions, a man’s hand always needs to be ready to take the helm.

The photo of the hand is my fathers. He has taught me lots of things. His hands are something I can remember all of my life. His hand is never far from the helm. I admire that.
