John Joseph Revisky was born on June 10th, 1965 in Okinawa, Japan. By his first birthday his family had moved back to the States and settled in Ojai, California, a small town just east of Santa Barbara. Revisky briefly aspired to become a plastic surgeon. Aesthetics were important to him, and the idea that he could control or manipulate the way something looked intrigued him. Photography was a natural segue, replete with possibilities for creating one’s own image, without the blood.

Revisky studied at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, (where he met fashionable friends who would later serve as the entrée to work for fashion houses like Prada and photo shoots for Courtney Love and other celebrities) and later at the Art Institute in Seattle. At 24, degree in hand and a raft of shoots with the biggest names in the music industry under his belt, he left for Milan.  Seven years later, a chance meeting with Gordon Thompson III, the then hot, young VP of research, design, and development at Nike, at a party in Oregon led to his next dream job-building nike.com. Post Nike, craving new experiences, Revisky relocated to Miami, entering the world of editorial fashion. One hundred covers later, having worked with almost fifty different publications, John’s creative bent led him back to the studio.

Today, John creates his images in mixed media and proffers his work through galleries.  His photographs serve as a base for his multi-layered resin pop art images that reference his musings about life and beauty and strength and solitude and strangely, humor.  With memorable, sometimes haunting images, Revisky invites us to see the world through his eyes, to deconstruct and rebuild, to grace the edge.  These are beautiful images we want to live with.
