Many cultures throughout history have developed symbols to teach their beliefs and pass on their identity. This concept of creating a visual vocabulary to communicate ideas is how I came to use symbolic imagery as the focus of my artwork.

My paintings and sculptures are typically comprised of patterned areas with juxtaposed images. I pair iconic symbols that have both literal and implied meaning with pattern work to create a symbolic portrait of the subject I am exploring. My goal is to create an atmosphere where these symbolic triggers work to expose the subject matter to the viewer on a deeper, more emotional level.
