Method:Multiple March 29 - April 2, 2011

Ceramics is a material that lends itself to the easy replication of object through casting, extrusion and the potter's wheel.  The artists presented in this thematic exhibition represent a wide interpretation of how the multiple can be approached as an artistic strategy.  Participating artists range from those who use mass-produced found objects to address issues of process and disposal; to those who redefine space using replicated ceramic forms.  Others employ the multiple to break down a recognizable image or to construct an object that remains visually ambiguous.  The thread of these works is the urge or complulsion to replicate and create both order and sometimes disorder.  This exhibition will include wall pieces, singular objects and installation by eight artists who utilize the multiple in their work.  "Method: Multiple" challenges the viewer to question the role of repetition and multiplicity, as well as examine the intercross of aesthetic, structural and conceptual concerns when art is made in multiples.
