When walking I notice the beauty in the small detritus of contemporary life that is left at our feet. Each shard has its own unique sculptural and aesthetic quality that we ignore as we tread over them. Each piece has its own story to tell and combined with others possibly an intriguing tale. Their true beginning we can never know but only imagine. By lifting these discarded items up and incorporating them into a new environment I am able to give them a new life and make them items of contemplation. Hopefully you will appreciate and see these modern artifacts in a new light and imagine new and unique beginnings.
Wade Brickhouse is a native North Carolina artist now residing in St. Petersburg with his wife, greyhound and two cats. All of which are a constant source of inspiration. Formally trained in architecture, he spent twenty eight years in the field of graphic design. During the last twelve of those years he was the sole proprietor of a design studio serving regional and international clients. He has since chosen to pursue his interest in fine art and crafts. In this pursuit he has studied under printmaker, Mary Lou Sussman and attended Penland School of Crafts. He has produced works in the disciplines of photography, computer generated imagery, painting, mixed media, ceramics and printmaking. The current focus of his work is paper; printmaking, collage, handmade paper, sculpture and casting. Wade is represented by galleries in the southeast and has participated in numerous exhibitions. His works are in private and corporate collections nationwide. His work is included in the “September 11 Memorial Portfolio,” a traveling exhibition of the American Print Alliance. “The ability to conceive and produce art is a divine gift and one that should be generously shared.
