Isabel Czerwenka-Wenkstetten, "Getting a Picture", Installation / tool, TV-screen-frame and mirror, 2009
The human physical appearance is under much pressure from the media. Likewise, the "tool" shown in the exhibition has been put under strain as well. It is a former TV that has been given mirrored screens too large for their frames. Consequently, these mirrors distort instead of giving a clear picture.
The picture of the contemplator of the tool is distorted and can be photographed by the artist in her performance. The picture taken will also be processed in a second step, in the aesthetic-style of the fashion-magazines. The result is printed out, with one given to the viewer and a second hung with the other pictures.
By having distorted the screen an attempt is made to resist and fight back - to shape the shapers: an endless paradox of designing and being designed.
